On March 15th 2026, our Extreme Weather Center in Arcata, closed as we began to transition to warmer spring weather.  The purpose of the extreme weather center was to provide a safe warm space in the early morning hours, when the temperatures frequently were at their coldest. The extreme weather center would also remain open all day, during inclement weather. During these very cold times, community members were provided with hot meals, hot beverages, blankets and snacks. Along with access to many other services such as: showers, hygiene items, device charging, mail services, and connection & referrals for various other services. Our goal at Arcata House Partnership was to provide a safe space for people to escape the elements, dry off, warm up, have a meal, and relax.

During the duration the warming center was open, from December 2025, through March, 15th 2026, we served approximately 132 individuals, with more than 545 meals served locally. Additionally, more than 228 clothing and personal hygiene items were distributed to people in need, to help everyone stay dry and warm, while simultaneously meeting other basic needs.

We additionally provided overnight shelter vouchers for people in need, during this cold weather emergency.  Over 126 individuals were provided shelter in hotel rooms, along with meals and other resources provided at our Annex location during the day.  This provided approximately

764 bednights to our unhoused community members,

during very extreme conditions.

Want to get more involved? Be on the lookout for our upcoming Spring Donation Day on April 25th!  This is a great time to do a little spring cleaning and donate those unwanted or unneeded items. We are always looking for rain gear, blankets and new underwear and socks.  This spring we will also be asking for seeds, bulbs, vegetable and herb plant starts, and gardening tools for our new community gardens!  Our family shelter is also very much in need of educational toys and a children’s play set for the backyard of the shelter.

As always, we thank you for your continued support and kindness.
